Hospital WayfinderIQ
For patients & carers

Know where to go before you leave home — and get clear help when you arrive.

Hospital WayfinderIQ helps you prepare for your visit and find your way once you arrive. Availability depends on whether your hospital participates — if you are not sure, contact your hospital directly.

Your journey in four steps

From appointment letter to the right door

  1. Open your trusted link

Follow the link your hospital sends with your appointment letter, text message or email.

  2. Review travel & access

Check travel options, entrances, parking and accessibility information before you leave.

  3. Follow your directions

Use indoor directions on your phone, or print them if you prefer.

  4. Reach check-in or ask for help

Arrive at the right check-in point, or ask a member of staff at any time.

What you can do

Everything you need in one place

  • Search for a clinic, department or facility by name.
  • Choose route preferences, such as step-free or lift-avoiding.
  • Scan a hospital QR code to instantly locate yourself.
  • Find parking, drop-off points, toilets and other amenities.

No smartphone or app required

Use Hospital WayfinderIQ in any browser, print your directions in advance, use an on-site kiosk where available, or ask a member of staff to help you in person. You are never required to have a smartphone to reach your appointment.

Accessibility

A route is only useful if the person can use it

Accessibility is a product capability, not a cosmetic mode. We build route choices from functional needs and test them with people who have lived experience.

Route preferences

  • Step-free travel
  • Stairs or lift avoidance
  • Distance and rest-point information
  • Verified door, gradient and accessible-toilet attributes

We do not silently relax a route preference you have chosen. If no verified route matches, we tell you clearly and point you to staff assistance.

Accessible channels

  • Screen reader support
  • Full keyboard operation
  • Voice control compatible
  • Printable directions

We target WCAG 2.2 AA and align with the NHS Accessible Information Standard, tested through task-based sessions with disabled users.

Privacy, explained simply

We collect the minimum information needed

Anonymous by default

General navigation — finding a department, checking accessibility information — does not require you to identify yourself.

Minimum data where needed

Where an appointment-linked journey or self check-in requires information, we only ever collect the minimum needed for that step.

What Hospital WayfinderIQ does not do

  • It does not give clinical advice.
  • It cannot retrieve, change or guarantee your specific appointment.
  • It is not an emergency service — in an emergency, always call 999.

Co-design & research

Help us design a better journey

We run accessible research sessions with patients, carers and visitors. Taking part is entirely optional and never affects your care.
